Eco Home Centre
The Eco Home Centre is a Rounded Developments Enterprises project. It is a not-for-profit company dedicated to bringing sustainable building out of rhetoric and into reality.
Our aims as a company are:
Champion the development of sustainable building in Wales by:
>Raising awareness and sharing knowledge through educational activities;
>Developing supply chain networks;
>Facilitating and supporting the implementation of projects.
Rounded Developments Enterprises (RDE) has four main areas of work, firstly to raise awareness of sustainable development principles, with particular reference to design and construction; secondly, to help service demand by acting as a retail and signposting service for sustainable products; thirdly to provide a consultancy / partnership service around sustainable building; and lastly, to provide training services to the industry to increase the understanding of sustainable principles and practices.
To support these aims RDE manages the following resources:
>a.The Eco Home Centre located in Canton, Cardiff that carries themed displays throughout the year focusing on a variety of sustainable development issues inc. Water management, Home energy generation (geothermal, solar and wind), Sustainable Design, Construction materials (roofs, walls, floors, insulation, windows and doors), Interiors (decoration, fixtures and fittings etc.), Energy efficiency and Energy saving devices.
>b.The www.rounded-developments.org.uk website that has a wealth of information and links to local organisations that can assist with sustainable building.
>c.A supply chain network. The Centre also acts as a retail outlet for a number of products that are not available locally in S Wales. RDE also has accounts with other companies that provide products that are suitable for sustainable buildings and hence makes this supply chain available to local builders and DIYers.
>d.A Training and Education Officer who is developing a range of services that will help people become more experienced in the required skills.
>e.Capacity to undertake project work in partnership with local organisations in order to push the sustainable development agenda forward. For example RDE initiated a project with Valleys 2 Coast and BRE to create a Sustainable Refurbishment Standard for Wales.
